Can we just take this moment to wish everyone a very merry Christmas, and if you are not celebrating Christmas, then have a lovely holiday and come back refreshed and with your sensible heads on, for the next term of hard hard work!!
This week we say a sorry Goodbye to our special student teacher who came all the way from Germany to work with the wonderful children of Year 2.
Lorena has given up her time and patience to teach our children some German words, games, songs, food, so so much. This is a great bug THANK YOU to Lorena (Frau Martin) for all the time she has spent with us. She will be missed by children and staff alike, and we all wish her the best in her future career. x X x
This week is anti-bullying week all over England, and it is no different in Birchfields. 2S are going to be talking about the importance of being kind to one another, and the types of bullying that can go on. It is important that all children know of the bullying that can go on, and what to do if it happens to them, or they see it happening to one of their friends.
We will be doing some great circle time, making posters and having a general chat about how we are all the same, yet all different in our own ways, and what to do if you feel like you are being bullied.
I look forward to some great discussion and debate…
All of year 2 are having a trip this week to St Agnes church in Longsight, to have a look at the different buildings that different people worship in. We are looking at the ornate statues, buildings and surrounding gardens, as part of the Religious Education Curriculum.
The following week we will be visiting a Hindu Temple to again look at the differnences and the buildings themselves. All very exciting stuff, 2S cant wait to visit the different places, they have lots of questions to ask!!
Its time for some tricky new work in 2S this week.
In Numeracy, we are looking at word problems, reading the sentences of the problem and getting the important information from them. What is the question asking? What answer do they want? How can I work it out? Its all very tricky but I’m certain we’ll do great!
In Literacy we are looking at Narrative, looking at how we make our sentences super, and how to join two sentenes together using a connective. We are looking at ‘Six Dinner Sid’ and reading into the characters of the story. Why they behave the way they do for example.
In science it is all about ~Electricity~! We have been looking at the different types of electrical items, the dangers around electricity and how a circuit is made. Its all exciting and lively stuff! Keep watching to see our models that we make with our own light up circuits!
We have also been looking at what makes us happy and safe in school, with some great discussion and some ideas for the future on how to make us all feel safe and happy at school.

I hope we all had a great holiday. Its time to knuckle down and really try our best this term to get on with some fantastic work. There was some great Fire of London work last half term, lets try even harder this half term and get those house points!!
Hello again to all who are reading this. Can we apologise for the lack of posts recently, 2S have been busy Busy busy, doing some fantastic work on the Fire of London in their Literacy and some very hard calculations, working with money in Numeracy. We are just getting used to how to put messages on the web site now and update the Good Work page so check it each week to see the brilliant work that is going on in 2S!
